Team Shaka featuring...ME!!!

I was invited to take part in Chapman University's Disability Alliance Day last Thursday. To kick off the festivities Team Shaka, Chapman's hip hop dance team, was invited to perform at the opening ceremony. Team Shaka wanted to incorporate a new perspective to their performance so they invited me to dance with them in honor of Disability Day. I was so excited. Recently I stepped down as a dancer from the wheelchair dance team I have been with the last few years so I could concentrate more on my school studies. Dancing with Team Shaka made me realize how much I miss dancing. It was great to get out there and dance again.

SIDE NOTE: one of my favorite T.V. shows is "So You Think You Can Dance" and this season I have had many favorite contestants. One of them being Nathan. So you can imagine my excitement to find out that the dance I was doing with Team Shaka was choreographed by Nathan himself. He is a former member of Team Shaka. It was a little sad for all of us the day of the performance because the night before the event he was voted off the show. I hope we made him proud. Below is video footage of the performance.

Each semester Team Shaka puts on a big dance show and since we had so much fun collaborating on this performance they invited me to dance with them in their dance show this spring. I will keep you posted when to expect show time.

Below is a photo of me with the Chapman Disability Alliance team. It was a great honor to be a part of this event.
